GV---You had been the #1 contender ofr Willie Jorrin's WBC superbantamweight belt prior to your loss to Oscar Larios, tell us what happened... Vasquez---It was a drastic change in styles, and I think that's what did it, Larios had been training to fight a style like mine. GV---What was the difference in the way Larios fought in this second fight against you than he did before? (Vasquez had knocked out Larios early in their first fight years ago) Vasquez---I didn't have the time to study him in the first fight, It lasted a minute and some seconds and I won in that occasion, In this one, I expected a very tough fight a hard fight and like I said I think It had to do more with the difference in style from Jorrin to Larios that did me in. GV----You were at #1 , what do you think you have dropped to? Vasquez---I do believe I'm ranked at #2. GV---Say... Jorrin fights Larios, if that should happen, if the WBC doesn't end up stripping Jorrin from the title due to inactivity or such, will you take an inbetween fight and then go for whoever should have the belt at the time? Vasquez---Well I hear that the title will be taken away from Jorrin, since he is hiding so much and doesn't fight, then yeah I think I will be fighting in a remacth for the title against Larios. GV---What will you do differently aginst Larios? Vasquez---I will train hard, and specially train for a fight in Larios styles, I will be in very good physical shape for it and I think we will come out ahead in the rubbermatch. GV---You are now training under Freddie Roach right? Vasquez---Yes I am. GV----Well he happens to also train Jorrin, say you and Jorrin were to meet for the title, what's going to happen? do you know who will train you? Vasquez---I have no idea, if that was the case, I would have to talk to my managerFrank Espinoza, or let Freddie decide who he would train, we would have to see if that should happen. Also, I want to say the following regarding Jorrin, I heard that when Jorrin was supposed to fight me for the title this last time out, he was being looked for by two girls, one of them being his girlfriend or something, I do't really know but also that he wasn't training and there was only two weeks left before our fight, and I hear that it was all a ruse to get out of the fight once again. He reported himself sick, and that is how it went by, two weeks went by and all of a sudden he messed up an ankle and I ended up fighting Larios at the last minute.
Vasquez---I
think I was ranked at #1 by the WBO but I think they dropped me when
I decisded to fight against Larios for the WBC interim title. Anyway
my plans are to come back strong and show what we are made of and show
why I'm ranked were I'm at be it the WBC or the WBA via their man Sato,
who is their champion, and unify thereafter. We are confident that with
a good preparation, work twice as hard and give everyone very good fights
and get crowned. GV--Thank you.
