The Tijuana resident looked sharp and very strong as he landed a right hand and a left uppercut which hurt Kyvelos in the first round, Kyvelos tried to hold as Margarito let loose left hooks to the liver, uppercuts and right hands punishing his opponent against the ropes for the rest of the round. Kyvelos face showed ravages by the end of the round, already sporting a bruised right eye and some blood showing from the mouth. Margarito came out gunning in the second round taking Kyvelos against the ropes once more and landing a big uppercut and a crunching right hand which sent Kyvelos to the canvas, a very wobbly Kyvelos was let go by the referee Raul Caiz sr. after an eight count and long look. Margarito came out for the finish pounding on his helpless opponent, forcing the stoppage by the ref at :54 seconds of the second round. Margarito and team stated that they would like to take on the best, as they are ready for it and Margarito does not intend to fight for a very long time and he is ready for the big fights out there.. The hit list of course includes TOP RANK's golden goosse, Oscar De La Hoya (more on Oscar in a bit) Shane Mosley or Fernando Vargas. (excerpt
from the interview after being asked regarding certaing fighters who
are willing to fight Oscar), ''I've never said this before, but let
me clear one thing up for the boxing world. I will NEVER fight Antonio
Margarito and I will NEVER fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. That will NEVER
EVER happen. Never. Now if anybody is feeding them, oh' you're going
to fight Oscar, It will never happen. I guarantee you, it will never
happen.'' - Oscar De La Hoya. :- According to an interview by Boxintalk.com
with De La Hoya which was conducted last week.
Rafael Marquez blows out Frissina. The IBF world bantamweight champion, the Mexican Rafael Marquez (31-3, 28 Ko's) steam rolled Pete Frissina in the co-main event. Frissina, more of a boxer came out hard in the first round, which played right into the hard banging Marquez, after some good exhcnages, a Marquez right hand dropped Frissina to the canvas, with Frissina making it up to his feet, just to be dropped once more by an all out attack by Marquez near the end of the round with the bell saving a visibly hurt Frissina. Marquez
jumped on Frissina landing right hands which sent Frissina against the
ropes being punished mercilessly.
Phoenix's own, the southpaw Jesus "El martillo" Gonzalez (7-0-7 ko's) seemed on his way to a four round superwelter weight decision, before putting the pressure and scoring a TKO over his opponent Vincent Moses (5-13-1) at 1:39 of the fourth round. The
superlightweight Dmitry Salita (17-0- 11 Ko's) was stunned, and
did some stunning of his own as he won an unpopular decision vs a willing,
wily and strong Frankie Sanchez .
