Quintana makes good in second try; defeats Williams in twelve.

By Francisco Villasenor.

Temecula, Ca. February 9, 2008- Southpaw Carlos "El Indio" Quintana (25-1, 20 KOs) who was last seen being clobbered from post to post by the WBA's Wlterweight champion Miguel Cotto scored the biggest win of his career on Saturday night, dethrowning Paul Williams of the WBO 147 LB. Crown.

Quintana (25-1, 20KOs), a 15-1 underdog, who was given little if any chance at beating the 6'2 Williams.

Quintana was definitely focused for the task at hand in goossen Tutor pormoted ffight card at the Pechanga Resort and Casino / Goossen Tutor promoted main event, which was televised on HBO.

Using very good movement, landing jolting head shots, timing ''The Punisher's'' lazy jab over the top, Quintana pulled ahead by the mid rounds, keeping Williams off balance, controlling the fast paced tempo, actually pushing and manhandling the much bigger former champion, the Puerto Rican was in full control past the half way twelve round mark.

Taking his fair share fo shots, Quinatan kept up the relentless counter punching attack, cutting Williams along side both eye late in the fight, with Williams fighting with no sense of urgency, Quintana did not step off the accelarator, beating his opponent to the punch at nearly evey turn, taking what had seemed a''keep busy'' fight for Williams into an exciting bout, ultimately going the twelve round distance.

The scores read: 115-113, and 116-112 (twice) for the new champion, who in turn inherits Antonio Margarito as the organization's mandatory opponent.

With the loss, Williams dropped to 33-1 with 24KOs.

On the undercard, undefeated Welterweight Andre Berto (21-0, 18 KOs) used German Michel Trabant (43-3-1, 19KOs) for target practice, battering the euro fighter at will, from all angles, before Trabant's corner retired their fighter form the contest at the end of the six round.

With the win, Berto remained the WBC's 147 LB. number one contender.

In other results, Top ten heavyweight contender Cristobal "The Nightmare" Arreola (22-0, 20 KOs) dispatched Cliff Couser (26-14-2, 14 KOs) with a series of short, chopping rights and head shots, stopping the ''Tyson-look-alike'' at 82 seconds into the first round.

Super Lightweight Omri Lowther (10-1, 8 KOs) decisioned Braulio Lopez (6-7-1, 2 KOs) via six round 59-55 (all three cards) decision.

Quick handed Super Welterweight Raymond Biggs Jr. (7-0, 6 KOs) dropped Bryan Mullis (4-3-1, 2 KOs) twice, in round one and three forcing a merciful stoppage at 1:32 into the round.

first round.
